Other Autosport
There are many other autosport competitions that offer comparable excitement to the world famous car racing championships. These auto sports are not as popular but they have very faithful followings, and some of the drivers or riders are also competing on a professional level. If you get to know some of these autosports competitions, you may find them appealing to you.
If you love the rugged outdoors, you can try dirt track racing or offroad racing. Dirt track races are mostly held in the stadium and drivers and riders are required to circle the track for a specified number of times. Offroad racing does not take place on the road, and it usually involves a four-wheeled all terrain vehicle on very rough dirt roads and slopes. Dirt track racing could either involve motorcycles, cars or all terrain vehicles (ATV). Other motor sports that developed from dirt track racing are rock crawling, cross country offroad races, desert races and long distance cross-border races.
Another autosport that is becoming more popular is the open wheel racing. This sport deals mostly with concrete tracks, and divisions of it include sports car racing and sprint car racing. Sports car racing is simply car racing at an enclosed race track. The cars used in this sport can either be built from production or custom built. Racers have to follow certain rules of the sport, which include construction standards for the cars and racing procedures. Sprint car racing is another term for drag racing. Restrictions are also laid out so that all the competitors can compete in different categories.
Rally racing or road racing can be considered as a fuse of both dirt racing and open wheel racing. Rally can either happen on a dirt road or concrete road. However, the difference between this sport and the other autosport competitions mentioned above is that rally racing is usually held in different locations around the world.
Motorcycle racing is another popular kind of motor racing sport. Motorcycle racing could either be held on dirt tracks or a specially designed track for motor racing. MotoGP is probably the most famous motorcycle racing event in the world. Motorcycle drag racing is much like sprint car racing, except that it involves motorcycles. Just like other race sports, this sport has its own sets of rules.
These are some of the more exciting motorsports you can take part in. But always bear in mind to protect yourself with the appropriate safety gear before you venture into these auto sports.
