Nascar Racing Series
Three main divisions come together to comprise the NASCAR Racing Series. Each competition is different, but all are sure to please any true racing fan. Busch Series is basically a lower level of competition full of new drivers who are trying to qualify to enter the NEXTEL Cup. Well known veteran racers take part in the very competitive NEXTEL Cup in hopes to come out victorious. The Craftsman Truck Series is the newest addition to the family with a new set of rules to add a new flavor to the standards of racing.
Rookie drivers get their foot in the door of NASCAR fame by participating in the Busch Series races. It is less popular than the NEXTEL Cup but fans love to watch for a chance to get an early glimpse of new talent. Many feel that the large attendance turnouts for the events may be due to their back to back schedule with the NEXTEL Cup.
Dates for NASCAR Busch Series races are set for the day prior to a NEXTEL event when possible to encourage fans to go to both. It is an opportunity to make an entire weekend out of the two events without the hassle of planning multiple dates through the season that are not close together.
By far the most popular division in NASCAR Racing Series is the NEXTEL Cup. Three championships include the Manufacturer's, Owner's, and Driver's championships. The Chase for the Championship is a point-based event where racers compete to qualify for a spot in the final twelve. New emphasis on winning has been applied with changes to the point system. Ten final races will award points for performance with the title of champion being given to the driver with the highest number of points.
Drivers who have not yet qualified for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup have found that participating in the Craftsman Truck Series is a really useful preparation. A big difference between this race and the other divisions are the restrictions on the pit stops. In the beginning, there were no pit stops. Eventually they were allowed but tire changes were limited to a specific number of sets per event or weekend.
Learning to conserve tires will assist in cutting down the number of stops made during other NASCAR Racing Series events. A number of early champions moved on to become top competitors in the NEXTEL Cup. Anyone starting out in the world of NASCAR racing is advised to get started within the truck series.
