Nascar Girls

In the all boys club of NASCAR, girls are not allowed. At least, that is how it used to be. There are a few talented women joining NASCAR and competing with the boys, and they are even giving them a run for their money. Sure, it isn't a new thing for women to compete in NASCAR, but it is a lot easier for women to compete now than it was in earlier years.

NASCAR was established in 1948 as a predominantly a male sport. No one said that there couldn't be women in NASCAR, there just weren't any that were interested in motor sports. A year later, Sara Christian became the first female NASCAR driver to compete. She did not compete for long as she retired in 1950. Many of the women of NASCAR have done the same, only competing a few times before retiring. One woman NASCAR driver, Janet Guthrie, competed in 33 different races including the Indy 500 in 1978.

NASCAR is one of the largest sports in America, and quickly growing. Almost half of the fans are now women. The main reason for this is because it is good clean family entertainment. There are no worries about language or violence. Everyone can get together and watch the race without fear of the content. For this reason, there is now more female interest in NASCAR. New NASCAR women were fans of the sport and have decided to compete.

There isn't a NASCAR girls team because there aren't enough just yet to make one, but some of the girls of NASCAR want to change that. The female NASCAR drivers aren't trying to create a league of women to compete against the men. They are just trying to work as a team in a male dominated sport.

NASCAR girls have been in the sport since the beginning but there were few and far between. The hope is that if there are more female drivers competing in the widely televised NASCAR events, girls will become more interested in the sport and want to compete in this great racing series. NASCAR girls are not just in victory lane posing for pictures with the winner as they were in the 1950's. Now, they are competing and winning races.

While it may still take some time before we see more NASCAR girls joining the ranks and competing but, it is no surprise that a NASCAR woman who was once a fan, now has the courage to want to compete in this male dominated sport. May there be more and more NASCAR girls!
