Fans of NASCAR may have often wondered what makes NASCAR engines different than the ones that are in typical street cars. There must be something special to those NASCAR engine sounds. There are many things that make them different than most cars, but they do share some of the same similarities.

Many of the NASCAR engines that are used today are modeled after older, more powerful engines. A NASCAR engine does use the same parts as your vehicle, but it is much more efficient in the way that it produces power. While much of the design does remain the same, there are some aspects of it that will change in order to harness even more power. The engine block is completely redesigned as well as the heads.

Only the finest parts are used, no refurbished parts. Never will you see a competitor with a used NASCAR engine because there is much more to it than just racing with any engine. Used NASCAR engines are usually resold to be used as parts, but never are those parts used again in an official NASCAR car. A NASCAR cup engine is a very precise piece of equipment.

The big difference in what makes NASCAR engines different than the ones in typical cars driven on the street is how they are assembled. NASCAR engine builders have to adhere to a very strict set of rules when putting the engine together. NASCAR engine rules state that every part must be exact. If there is any piece of the engine that fits too snug, or shows any wear, it must be disassembled and the part must be replaced. A NASCAR engine builder must inspect all parts of the engine multiple times before it goes to the dynamometer.

Once on the dynamometer, the engine is run for 30 minutes. After the initial first run, NASCAR engine manufacturers then check the engine for any metal flakes, or any other signs that the engine is not operating to the full NASCAR engine specifications. If the engine has no problems, it is placed back on the dynamometer for 2 hours. Engines in NASCAR need these tests to be completely safe to operate under the extreme conditions.

It is these tests that make NASCAR engines different than standard engines. Many engines like the NASCAR Toyota engine, have seen their fair share of revisions. This year the Toyota NASCAR engine is undergoing a few big changes in order to help them better compete with the competition. While creating a new engine may increase the NASCAR engine price, this engine could make Toyota a winner.
