Renault F1
The Renault F1 team has proven that it has what it takes to compete with the best in F1 racing. Though Renault only joined F1 races not too long ago, the company did take part in the F1 competition decades ago as a part of Renault Sports. During their stint with Renault Sports, the Renault F1 team managed to reach second place in the constructor’s challenge once and third place twice. However, the Renault F1 team ended the first part of its campaign in 1985 due to financial problems.
Even though a Renault F1 car did not feature in F1 races for many years, Renault engines continued to be used by various F1 teams. Williams and Benetton were the two teams that used Renault engines until 1997. Then in the year 2000, Renault Formula 1 would once again join the world of F1 racing. The team purchased Benetton and retained its name for two seasons. It was in 2002 that the team introduced Renault F1 logo and changed its name from Benetton to Renault.
The year 2003 would be the turning point for the new Renault F1 team as Fernando Alonso was promoted from test driver to main driver. Alonso won the Hungarian Grand Prix that year and it was a sign of great things to come. The next year, even though Alonso failed to win any of the races, the team managed to place third in the constructor’s championship. In 2005, the Renault F1 team made history by winning their first constructor’s championship as Fernando Alonso became the youngest champion ever. The team and Alonso continued their winning ways the very next year even though Ferrari threatened their championship hopes to the very end.
